Golden Dynasty marks 20 years serving classic Chinese food in Ogden

OGDEN — After 20 years in business, Golden Dynasty has become a Chinese food staple in Ogden.

The business was opened by Zhou and Xiu Chen, who immigrated to the area from China in 1988. Since its opening in 1996, the restaurant has continued to be run by the family, whose members take on shifts to ensure the eatery’s success.

“They love food, cooking and always wanted to own a business of their own,” Zhou and Xiu’s youngest daughter, May Chen, said of her parents.

The family knows it’s rare to stay in business for so long. They attribute part of the restaurant’s longevity to staying dedicated to their top priorities: satisfying customers and staying consistent. “The Golden Dynasty tries to meet those standards with every customer that comes in,” May Chen said.

Jordan Richards and her family know that well. They’ve been regulars at the restaurant — located at 3433 Washington Blvd. — since around the time it opened. She and her seven siblings went with their parents when they were younger; now that the children are grown, it remains a family favorite. 

“When they see us coming, they give us the private room where the door closes. The service awesome, and they’re always hospitable,” said Richards, who lives in Plain City. “It’s the best-tasting and best-priced Chinese food in Ogden.”

May said they work to keep their prices low. The average lunch item is about $5.50, with dinner items ranging from $5.65 to 10.50. 

Zeke Post, who is Richards’ sister, said a family favorite is the Pon Pon Chicken, also known as Szechuan Chicken, which is a deep-fried chicken breast covered in sweet and spicy sauce.

May Chen said he’s not alone — it’s one of the most popular menu items. 

May Chen’s personal favorite are the cheese wontons. “They have cream cheese on the inside, crunchy shell on the outside. Yum,” she said.

The restaurant also serves up traditional Chinese items including lo mein, Szechuan, sweet and sour dishes, and traditional soups. A dinner combination plate comes with an egg roll, fried shrimp, ham fried rice, fried wonton and a choice of hot and sour or chicken soup.

“If you are looking for good Chinese food and great people, you should come to Golden Dynasty,” May Chen said.
