OGDEN — A new Black Bear Diner location is set to open on 12th Street in February.
The restaurant franchise, known for its homestyle comfort food, is opening a new location in Ogden at 366 12th St. The grand opening will be held Monday, Feb. 6, Black Bear Diner officials say.
The new restaurant will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Black Bear Diner has taken over the old Blockbuster building, which has been vacant for years since the company filed bankruptcy in late 2010. The new restaurant is just one of many new businesses along 12th Street in the past few years.
Ogden Mayor Mike Caldwell said the city is “thrilled” with how 12th Street has been developing over the last several years. Caldwell described the area, which has a major freeway ramp and business district nearby, as ideal for restaurants, according to previous Standard-Examiner reporting.
Between early 2014 and spring 2015, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Jimmy John’s and Zaxby’s all opened along 12th Street.
Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers and Beans & Brews Coffee House have also recently opened locations on 12th Street.
The franchise also has locations in West Valley City, West Jordan, Sandy, Draper, American Fork, Orem and St. George, along with numerous restaurants in California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Nevada, Idaho and Arizona.
According to the restaurant’s website, another location is supposed to open in Woods Cross in fall 2017.
