Cool down this summer with these 8 no-hassle drinks

Stay refreshed and liven up your backyard get-togethers with some new twists on classic summer drinks this year. 

These drink recipes are easy to make and are sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Red White and Blue Frozen Lemonade

Ingredients:  

  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 cups ice cubes
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • Maraschino cherries

Instructions: 

Put sugar, lemon juice and ice in a blender; cover and process until slushy. Divide blueberries and place at the bottom of four glasses.

Add lemon slush and top off with cherries.

Hot Pink Lemonade

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 1/4 cups fresh lemon juice
  • 7 cups cool water
  • 2 cups ice
  • 3/4 cup blueberries 

Instructions:

Add the sugar to one cup of water and boil it in a saucepan on medium-high heat, stirring until liquid becomes clear.

Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice. Pour 7 cups of cool water and ice into serving pitcher.

Add blueberries and lemon juice, and stir until color is close to hot pink.

All Recipe readers recommend boiling or crushing blueberries in order to release juices easier.

Blackberry Sweet Tea

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups fresh or frozen blackberries, thawed
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint
  • Pinch of baking soda
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • 2 family-sized tea bags
  • 2 1/2 cups cold water

Instructions:

Combine blackberries and sugar in large container, crush with wooden spoon; stir in mint and baking soda. 

Pour 4 cups boiling water over tea bags, cover and steep for 5 minutes. Discard tea bags.

Pour tea over blackberry mixture and let stand at room temperature for 1 hour. Pour tea through a wire-mesh strainer into large pitcher, discarding solids.  

Add 2 1/2 cups cold water, stirring until sugar dissolves. Cover and chill for 1 hour. Use extra blackberries as garnish.

Cherry Bombs

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup grenadine
  • 1 liter clear citrus soda or seltzer
  • 2 cups water
  • 18 maraschino cherries

Instructions:

Place 2 cups water in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Add grenadine and stir to combine.

Pour mixture into two ice-cube trays and freeze until solid. 

Fill six glasses with the grenadine ice cubs. Top with soda. Garnish with cherries and serve.

Ingredients 

  • 3 cups ginger ale
  • 4 tablespoons grenadine
  • 4 tablespoons orange juice
  • 3 scoops orange sherbert

Instructions:

Blend ginger ale, grenadine, orange juice and sherbet together. Pour into ice-filled cocktail glasses and serve. 

OPTIONAL: Splash some white rum in the mixture to give it a kick.

Mermaid Lemonade

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups ice
  • 1/4 cup Blue Curacao
  • 1 cup white rum
  • 2 cups lemonade
  • 4 lemon slices for garnish
  • 8 Maraschino cherries for garnish
  • 4 paper umbrellas

Instructions:

Add blue curacao, rum and lemonade to four ice-filled glasses. Stir. 

Skewer a lemon slice and two cherries on each paper umbrella to garnish the drink.

Ingredients: 

  • Ice
  • 1 1/2 ounces of Old Tom gin
  • 1/2 ounce Cherry Heering
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 2 ounces chilled IPA
  • Lemon wheel for garnish

Instructions:

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add all ingredients except the beer and garnish. Shake well and strain into a highball glass.

Top off with the beer and garnish with the lemon wheel.

Raspberry Beer Cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup fresh raspberries
  • 3 1/2 (12 ounce) bottles beer, chilled
  • 1 (12 ounce) container of frozen raspberry lemonade concentrate, thawed
  • 1/2 cup vodka

Instructions:

Mash raspberries in a bowl using the back of a spoon; transfer to pitcher. Stir in remaining ingredients. Serve over ice.
