WOODS CROSS — Sausage. Asiago cheese. Jalapeños. Red sauce. White sauce. Heck, throw some salami, roasted garlic and pineapple on there too if you feel like it.
You can mix and match as many toppings as you want at the new MOD Pizza, opening Wednesday, July 19 at 2577 S. Wildcat Way in Woods Cross.
District manager Michael Yetter said all of MOD’s pizzas have a flat base price, no matter how many toppings. The thin crust creation is baked in an 800-degree oven for about five minutes.
“There’s always one person in the family who likes mushrooms when no one else does,” Yetter said. “Here, you can do that and it’s affordable.”
MOD offers salads as well with the same concept of being able to add as many toppings as desired.
“I can barely finish one in one sitting,” Yetter said.
The restaurant will open at noon on Wednesday and the first 52 customers get a free pizza or salad. Yetter said 100 percent of that day’s pizza sales will go to Safe Harbor, a Utah nonprofit that helps domestic violence and sexual assault survivors.
“We’re really proud about becoming involved in the community,” Yetter said.
A traditional, thin crust “mod” pizza is 11 inches and costs $7.67. A mega is the same size only with a thicker crust and costs more while a 6 inch “mini” costs less.
MOD Pizza — MOD stands for “made on demand” — was founded in Seattle in 2008 by husband and wife pair Scott and Ally Svenson, according to the eatery’s website.
Scott Svenson said the term “MOD” originally came from the “innocent rebellion” of the 1950s Mod era in the U.K. but grew to encompass the company’s “modern” take on pizza and giving patrons the ability to “modify” their pizzas however they choose.
Svenson chose to expand into Utah because families are typically MOD Pizza customers. He also hopes to have a positive social impact on the Salt Lake City area.
Other MOD Pizza locations are slated to open in Park City, Riverdale, Murray and the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City in the coming year.
