Cuppa brings Ogden a new vegan-friendly cafe with space for creativity

New 'Cafe for Creatives' opens in Ogden

OGDEN— Opening Cuppa is literally a dream come true for Bec Sato.

The new cafe, at 552 E 25th St. in Ogden, features a solely plant-based menu and a variety of beverages, including coffee, traditional and herbal teas, kombucha and fresh pressed juices.

The cafe’s inspiration came from a dream Sato had about two years ago. In the dream she was riding her bike in the mountains and discovered a cafe called Writer’s Cuppa.

“I went into the little cafe and I started writing a novel,” Sato said.

Because Sato is a creative person, the idea of her writing a novel wasn’t far fetched. When she woke up, Sato told her husband, Nate Sato, she thought she may one day open the cafe.

Over the next few years, Sato was busy writing a book in addition to her other responsibilities. Despite the busyness, the thought of the cafe kept coming back to her.

When the couple moved to Ogden about a year ago, they saw the space Cuppa now resides in and decided it was time to make the dream a reality.

Although Sato is not vegan, her husband is. This provided the inspiration for Cuppa’s menu. Beyond being vegan friendly, the menu also includes gluten- and grain-free choices.

“My husband and I really wanted Cuppa to feel like anybody, no matter what your dietary restrictions, no matter what your health code is, there will be something on the menu for you,” Sato said.

Cuppa’s website brands it a “Cafe for Creatives,” an idea that was important to Sato to carry over from her dream into real life. The cafe includes spaces for people do things like work on homework individually or collaborate with a larger group.

“We really wanted to design a space where people could sit around as long as they wanted and didn’t feel rushed and didn’t feel like they needed to get out,” Sato said.

Until the end of November, the cafe is open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and features a smaller test menu.

On December 1, the cafe will begin full operating hours 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The menu is seasonal and will rotate regularly.
